Find your beauty and surround yourself in it.
People, nature, logic, systems. Microcosms and macrocosms. Wherever you want to look.
The husband or wife you snuggle next to at the close of the day, glad for the warmth and continuing companionship.
The joy of a child – yours or another’s – as she explores the new world around her: a bug, a puddle that shakes when she steps in it, the feeling of a somersault that makes her laugh.
The heroism of someone standing up for others.
The jagged ridge of high mountains, gray granite against a deep blue background of sky.
The turbulent ocean waves as they display their patient erosion of the shoreline rocks, tossing white sprays endlessly into the air, as if in play.
The elegant circle of human thought or electrons that complete a circuit, coming home to a final connection, offering to start again.
Zooming into tiny sea creatures, beyond their cells to imaginable molecules and billions upon billions of atoms of the tiniest essence. Then zooming out to the whole earth, the solar system, to galaxies and the number of billions again – for we have no phrases that could capture the multiplication of small times large.
One can look at this without fully understanding it. Joy and satisfaction are found in the feeling of wonder and awe, of appreciation and gratitude for this remarkable beauty.
One must look for such beauty while appreciating what it really is.
If you’re lucky, you get to immerse yourself in it, becoming more than an observer, becoming an actor in a wonderful, remarkable play.
