Maybe

“Gramps, I said maybe I would go out and play in the snow. Maybe,” said my grandson. The icicles had melted and the snow was following suit. How do I tell him in a receivable way that “maybe” just doesn’t do it. “Maybe” ends up delaying the decision, losing the opportunity, missing the boat. We need a resounding “yes!” here, lest the snow experience escapes us.

“Maybe” can preserve opportunity, choices, options; but too often it’s a poorly used approach. As in the market, options often expire worthless, zero, zip. It’s often better just to hit the bid, take the shot, shift into action mode.

If you don’t, “maybe” will lull you into inaction. Life’s too short for maybe; the closest one should come is to take a long shot. Maybe it will go in; maybe it won’t; but at least  maybe becomes action.  It’s launched into the air of the possible.
