There is a proverb that, when whispered, is said to lighten the burden of the saddened and weigh down the light-hearted: “This too shall pass.”
It speaks of the changes, the cyclicality of time and fate and men and even physics. For planets revolve and seasons change.
I prefer to maximize the happy times, forestalling the gravity of this knowledge as long as I can. Yet in those other times, the sad times, I am heartened to think of change, the hope of reversal. The certainty that the cycle will bear me off the sorrow.
For I know that the new moon will bring light again to the dark night.
